Thanks Mama Coyote and ajw811@gmail.cm for your comments.

I hear you Mama Coyote... I feel like I'm whining sometimes too... but I just try to remember that I have a right to. This disease is not fun. Yes, it could be worse... but when it's bad, it's pretty bad. I just let myself whine when I want, and then just try to really enjoy the good days!

Thanks ajw811@gmail.cm. I appreciate your suggestion... but eating meat and eating protein are not mutually exclusive. There are tons of great protein sources that are plant based... and that is my personal choice. I have read enough and done enough of my own research to know that I will never go back to being a meat eater again. I do find that all aspects of life seem to be generally better if I exercise regularly, but exercise can also be a trigger for my migraines - sometimes I can exercise and feel great... other times (or if I have a mild migraine to start) it will make it much worse. I've always taken multivitamins and fish oil (Omega Q)... but I think what seemed to help more was CoQ10 and magnesium. I take all of those things daily. Honestly, I think we just have a bunch of band aids to treat symptoms (which I don't knock at all - I'm thankful for them), but no real cures for what's actually causing our migraines yet. Hopefully all of the new studies focusing more on the brain will get us closer to a real cure.

I suggest eating meat (or, at least, protein). Seriously. I didn't for years, and had daily migraines. I wasn't iron deficient clinically, but mine are less ever since.

What about exercise?

Multivitamins?

Fish oil?

SAM-e?

Oh wow do I know what you're talking about here... my migraine symptoms have been slowly shifting to more full-body attacks that include joint pain, and my husband and I have been talking about looking into getting disability benefits... every time we talk about whether I can hold down a job, I feel like a whiny baby--like I should be able to prevent this pain, or at the very least handle it better... siiigh.

I'm really liking this blog, thanks for keeping it :D

Thanks so much Mary Kay. I'm not vegan at this point, but when I'm having very few animal products at all, I do take a sub-lingual B-12 supplement. When I finally cut out cheese for good, I'll definitely make sure to get my B-12 monitored to make sure I'm okay. Thanks so much for the heads up though... I wouldn't want anyone to read the post and think you don't have to supplement if you choose the vegan lifestyle.

Teresa... I did go to a chiropractor for some time to try and help, but was not able to find a chiropractic neurologist I could get in to see. I've recently moved, so I will have to look into it again. Please keep in touch and let me know how the treatment is working for you. I wish you the very best.

Miranda... thanks so much for your note and the link for Fioricet. My only word of caution for readers is to check on the legality of importing any drug from another country... and to check the site out carefully as there are many that sell counterfeit products. There are lots of good ones though... this is just my general "buyer beware" statement.

Best, Kelli :)

Kelli,

I found your blog when I searched on "chiropractic neurologist" and migraine and that article was dated in 2004. I see that you are still suffering from migraines. Did you try the chiropractic neurology and it didn't work for you?

The reason I ask is that I've had a resurgence of my terrible migraine disorder in the last eight months (had it for years, it kind of got under control, and now NOTHING seems to help).

I just got back from a visit with a chiropractic neurologist and really liked how he assessed me and what he plans to do. He says it could take about three months and we might have to go beyond neurology exercises and adjustments to get into hormone and adrenal and thyroid tests, but that he hasn't had a patient yet who didn't get over their migraines.

I really hope that's true because "debilitating" doesn't begin to describe these nasty things.

Thank you for your blog, I really appreciate that you take the time to write about what's going on with your headaches.

Don't blame yourself for your migraine because whatever you do to avoid the triggers, there will be instances where you will have it. I'm just glad that I can buy fioricet online without a prescription. It makes life easier for me when I'm having migraine attacks.

Hi Kelli,
I have your blog listed on my website at this page: http://www.headache-adviser.com/headache-blogs.html

I think your goals are fantastic..sounds like you have really localized your triggers for migraine.

One thing I would like to mention..if you are vegan and have been for a few years you run the risk of becoming Vitamin B12 deficient. This is a simple blood test your doc can do. If below 350, you may need injections for a while and then oral supplementation. Sometimes, some people don't absorb the oral correctly.

Why?..well lack of B12 might make headaches worse as B12 is needed to maintain nerve health. Lack of it also causes memory loss and tingling in the extremities.

PS..your migraines are not all your fault..there is a strong genetic component!

Good luck..
