Hi everybody,
Well, I'm still dealing with back pain (officially diagnosed as S1 Nerve Pinch), but I do think it's gradually getting better. I've been going to physical therapy for a couple weeks now and doing a series of exercises to strengthen the muscles around the spine - hamstrings, glutes, abs and lots of stretches. I think it's helping a ton.
But today... I went to try something additional. I went in for my first acupuncture treatment. I have a friend who swears by it and said that when she had back pain years ago, a series of acupuncture visits cured her pain alltogether. I figured I should definitely try it and my doctor and physical therapist said it would be fine.
It was no trouble at all to go through (other than getting myself face down on the table - still hard for me and causes the shooting pain). I only needed 10 needles from just above my right buttock all the way down to the bottom of my right foot. Apparently these are points that deal with the energy in the gall bladder, bladder and kidney. It was very interesting actually. The only needle that "hurt" (just a pinch) was the one on the bottom of my foot, but that was no big deal at all. They were in for maybe a total of 15-20 minutes. What happens is that they go in and stay straight up and when the energy starts to even out, the needles loosen up and fall over or even fall out... that's how the practitioner knows they're "done." Very cool stuff.
I've always been curious about it because I have heard of people getting relief from migraines with acupuncture. Since my migraines have been slim to none since the back pain set in, I am not going to try acupuncture for the migraines at this time so we can concentrate only on the back pain. If this helps my back pain, I will definitely be trying it for migraines though. Have any of you tried it? Did it help???
No more migraines,
Kelli :)
