Hi all,
I received this interesting email today from fellow migraineur Robert Shearer.

I've run across something new (to me) that might be a migraine cause. I've run through all kinds of tests and abortives and preventatives and so on, but here's a new one I'm testing: mercury poisoning.
It turns out that the "silver" amalgam used in tooth fillings is something like 50% mercury. The American Dental Association asserts that the amalgam is safe, however there have been cases where the mercury has leached out of the fillings. Usual symptoms are irritability and hair loss, but for some people it can manifest as headaches. Today I called my doctor about being tested for mercury poisoning, will let you know what the test is if you are interested. I believe it is a urine test of some sort.
The URL that got me started looking into this is http://www.chuckpyle.com/newsletter2.html Chuck Pyle is a singer-songwriter who got mercury poisoning and had all kinds of problems with it. A google search on mercury and migraines brought up a few sites which listed some of the symptoms, headache being one of them (ringing in the ears is another of them that I have, have had for years, thought it was from shooting when I was a teen, but now I'm not so sure).
Regards,
-robert

Have any of you heard of this as a cause of migraines?
This is VERY interesting. I never had a single cavity until I was in college... and my migraines started in college too. I don't have a lot of fillings... but I will certainly be interested to hear what Robert learns and will check on this with my dentist next time I'm in.
No more migraines,
Kelli :)
