Hi everybody,
Well, to my complete frustration and dismay, I woke up today with a migraine. I had been feeling a terrible tightness in my neck before I went to bed last night and that could have been the cause... or the red wine I had with dinner... or the fact that I'm trying to give up soda... or who knows. I had been feeling great yesterday though and so looking forward to spending the day with my neices and nephew and my Mom though. I didn't let it get me down though. I took a bunch of meds that didn't work and made me nauseous, used my ice packs and stick-on migraine ice patches... and just went about our busy day. I was in pain the whole day, but at least I was out and living life instead of missing everything. I really am happy that I've just accepted that I'm going to have days where I just have to be uncomfortable and in pain... but I'm not letting it rule my life anymore.
My Mom and I hit the mall in the evening and look what I found at Bath & Body Works:

I may have posted here about this before, but peppermint smell is actually something that helps me when I have migraines. Almost all other smells, even subtle smells, make me sick to my stomach, but peppermint is awesome for me. The mint smells cold to me... I think that's the best way to describe it. I get such great relief from cold that even the mint that "smells cold" is helpful.
I thought this little headache relief kit from Bath and Body Works was very cool. It was about $13 for the whole thing on sale (retail looks to be $17.50) and has 3 really nice peppermint items and one lavender/chamomile item. It has two items using peppermint essential oil (a more dense massage cream (white with little blue specks in it) and a pulse points roll-on peppermint cream. There is also some peppermint herbal tea and a very neat disposable eye mask that uses lavender and chamomile (two smells that are supposed to help with relaxation). The eye mask is just like the migraine ice patches in that it's a big white patch in the shape of an eye mask that you stick on your head and press into your face. You then lie down and relax for 15-20 minutes, take the mask off, and toss it. I'm getting ready to use it tonight as my headache is still hanging on. I've already used both the massage cream and the pulse points oil and really like both.
Thought those of you that like peppermint might be interested in this. You can purchase it at Bath & Body Works at a local store... and even visit their website ahead of time to learn more about the products and find the store nearest you. http://www.bathandbodyworks.com [Warning: this website is all in Flash and is a bit frustrating to use. I can't send you a direct link to the info on this product... but if you go to the site and chose to Browse/Shop In Store, and then chose to view the Aromatherapy Remedies, you'll find the headache products.] I have not found a place to purchase this item online, but if I do I will come back and amend this post.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend. I'm hoping my headache will be gone in the morning and I will enjoy my Sunday too!
Best, Kelli :)
Thanks so much for your comment Tracy... I am so happy to hear you like the Origins Peace of Mind as much as I do. I still use it after many years and helps me with the nausea as well. I just love the "cold" smell of mint... and the Peace of Mind scent is definitely my favorite of the 10 or so I've bought over the years. It's the perfect strength, but is still mild enough that it doesn't overpower me. I hope your recent migraine is better... and that you have continued success treating yours. Best, Kelli :)

I've been dealing with migraines for the past 15+ years since my early teens. I use Excedrine migraine; that plus sleep would usually help get past the worst of my migraines. Just had a bad one today and woke up in the post-migraine fog complete with lingering nausea and neck knots. I tried Origins' Peace of Mind and I really liked it. My neck knot is melting away and the sick feeling that was lingering in my temple is fading; I think the peppermint smell is helping to ease the nausea too! I hope this really works and isn't just a fluke! Thanks for your blog I'm always looking for something to help with my migraines. I also get the horrible stiff neck/knots & sometimes auras as a warning sign.

I too am surprised at how well B&BW pulse point peppermint oil and headache relief mask work for my migraines. As I've been trying to cut down on chemical medicines like ibuprofen, which used to be my fall-back because I can't take Imitrex, I'm always on the lookout for natural remedies. This is the first I've seen your blog but I will certainly follow it now. Here are some of the things that work for me: http://freshdomestic.blogspot.com/2011/11/stuck-at-home-sick.html

Hi Jenny,
Please see my comment below. The status is still the same. I haven't been able to find this product in years. It's a bummer... that was a really neat headache kit and I thought a great gift to get anyone who has headaches of any type.
Best, Kelli :)

Hi Karen,
I've been trying to years to find this kit again. I haven't been able to either. I've tried contacting Bath & Body Works to see if they only released it that one year (it must have been 2004 or so?). I've never seen it again. I get at least a few emails every year asking me if I know where to find it. Unfortunately, no luck.
Bath and Body Works does have 4 pages of other mint based products. I know I like the Tranquil mint fragrance. Those products are here:

I also LOVE the Origins "Peace of Mind" - it's my favorite of all the creams I've found and I use it all the time.

I've tried the roll-on and the cream for the back of the neck and find it doesn't take the whole headache away; but, it does relieve some of the discomfort. A little relief is better than none. My two oldest children 16 and 14 years of age suffer terrible migraines also and have found some comfort in the pepperment treatments also.
